Bakassi: Troops repel attack, kill seven militants

Troops from the Nigerian Army 13 Brigade and Operation Delta Safe have repelled an attack by an operation leading to the troops killing seven of the militants.
A release by the Public Relations Officer of the 13 Brigade Nigerian Army Calabar, Captain KO Owolabi, revealed that the militants, led by “the most wanted criminal, Benjamin Ene alias G1” ,attacked troops’ position around 0100 hours early Friday.

The release, however, stated that the troops repelled the attack killing seven of the militants some of them wearing Nigerian military camouflage.



According to the release, “Items recovered are 250 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, rocket propelled gun launcher, GPMG belt links and various charms were recovered while several others escaped with gunshot wounds.   No casualty from the military.”
Meanwhile, the army claimed to have destroyed 143 illegal refineries during its Operation Crocodile Smile exercise in the Niger Delta, according to Brigadier General Hassan Hamisu.
Hassan, who is the Brigade Commander,   2 Brigade, Port Harcourt, disclosed this while fielding questions from newsmen after a jumat service at the barracks to mark the nation’s 56th  independence.
Commending the gallantry of soldiers during the operation, which has ended, he said it was carried out by soldiers of 2 and 4 Brigade.
Also, yesterday, the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) UNITY, which departed China on September 21 on her maiden voyage to Nigeria, has arrived the Port of Klang in Malaysia, after passing through the waters of the South China Sea.
She arrived Port of Klang on September 29.
On arrival, the ‘man of war’ was received by Nigeria’s Deputy High Commissioner in Malaysia, Mrs Janet Bissong Odeka, the Representative of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Samuel Paul, as well as other senior military officers and embassy officials.
The Commanding Officer of the ship Captain Abolade Ogunleye, was pleased to report that the voyage from China Sea to Malaysia was hitch-free as the typhoon which initially appeared to be a challenge had abated.
